This class has a variety of exercises that will cover in-depth hwo you can use cavalettis for strength, striding, and limb awareness.
Who Should Participate?
Any Healthy Dog!
Puppies - before growth plate closure (limited repetition)
Adult dogs
Dogs with shortened stride
Conformation dogs
Active dogs that struggle to find their stride while managing uneven or unstable surfaces

What's Included?

There will be discussion threads to ask questions.
Format
Each class is broken into lessons, with one or more exercises within each lesson.
Start Date
Class will begin on May 15th. Each week new content will be published and working students will have the opportunity to submit video for review.
Video
Working students can submit up to 3 minutes of video per lesson for instructional review. Video review by instructor with supporting videos as needed.
Timeline
The class is open for video submission, questions, review, and comments for 90 days allowing you plenty of time to work through the material, take and edit video and formulate your questions as well as allow the instructor to review and give feedback. Access to material lasts as long as BLCC exists.
The school reserves the right to modify, update or remove this class at any time.
Curriculum:
Class consists of 7 lessons with muiltple exercises per lesson.
Setups and tips for cavalettis (including homemade options)
Cavalettis for limb awareness
Proper height for limb awareness & strength exercises
Cavalettis for stride work and extension
Proper spacing
Proper height for stride work
Proper gait
Cavalettis for long-backed dogs
Suggested Pre-requisites
A basic understanding of clicker training and the following behaviors either on verbal or hand signal cue, using a target or lured are helpful, but not required:
- Nose Touch and/or Nose Touch Hold
- Chin Rest
- Go to Target or Mat
- Cone Wrap
- Independent Backup
- Right and Left Circles (spin & twist)
- Side Stepping
- Paw Target
What Level are the Exercises?
This course will have beginner to advanced exercise with most falling in the intermediate to advanced level. This class will focus specifically on the exercises taught and I will answer questions about the foundation needed but will not be teaching all the foundation movements.

Possible Equipment
Substitutions will be recommended if you don't have equipment used in the videos. FitPaws equipment can be purchased via the link below. Klimb is offering a discount as well. Information to get the discount will be available upon enrolling.
- Cavalettis (cone & poles, set of 6)
- Homemade pvc pipe cavalettis
- Poles, agility jump bars, broom/mop handles, on crushed soda cans

There are many possible equipment options or you may use something you have laying around your house.
Training Methods
A variety of training methods can be used to obtain the proper movement or position - shaping, luring, capturing, targeting, and It's Yer Choice. These will be discussed in the video tutorials, in the forum and through video review but every tiny step will not be demonstrated in the instructional video. You will need to break each behavior down into small pieces so that your dog understands what is being asked.
Disclaimer: Some of the information in this class may overlap or appear in other classes due to the foundation needed for many behaviors, tricks and fitness exercises. In addition, there are overlapping skills needed for many different performance activities so you may see exercises that are the same but packaged up differently toward a slightly different goal.

Jamie owns and operates Dogs of the Round Table which offeres dog training, group classes, private lessons, and seminars in Greensboro, NC area and beyond. She specializes in canine fitness training, tricks training, and behavior modification techiques designed to help dogs work with focus and confidence in a variety of environments and arousal levels. Jamie is well-knonwn for her ability to expertly create and implement training programs that meet the needs of individual students with a focus on always improving the canine/handler bond. She uses methods that are simple, scientifically sound, effective, dog and handler friendly, and fun!
Jamie brings a wealth of experience and education to Dogs of the Round Table (DOTRT). She is an AKC CGC and Trick Dog Evaluator, Certified Canine Fitness Trainer (2017), Certified Canine Strength and Conditioning Coach (2023), Certified Controlled Unleashed Instructor (2023), and was formerly National Entomology Scent Detection Association certified. She completed an internship at Paws4ever Animal Sanctuary where she woked closely with the manager of their dog training program, assisting in a variety of group classes and private lessons to the public. While there, she also helped perform behavior assessments and create intervention plans for the dogs in the adoption center.
Jamie has also actively trained and competed with horses and her own dogs, including work as a therapy dog handler for Pet Partners, a bed bug scent detection handler, and titling her own dogs in multiple sports including flyball, trick training, conformation, disc, and lure coursing. These certifications and experiences blend seamlessly with her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education from CUNY Hunter College and her expertise in developing individualized behavior intervention plans in difficult cases while teaching special education for 10-years, allowing Jamie to create amazing programs for both dogs and handlers.
