Learn activities and training exercises that set your puppy up for success. Puppy Potential aims to build a strong bond between you and your puppy to help your puppy gain confidence!


Why Take This Class??

This class will prepare your puppy for all the extraordinary things that we ask of our dogs. By teaching your pup about their body, about being touched, about offering well trained behavior when it is cued, you will be teaching your pup a language and way to use their body that lasts a lifetime.

What's Included?

Discussion Threads

There will be discussion threads to ask questions. Downloadable write ups for each lesson will also be provided.

Format

Each month multiple videos and lessons will be posted. Workers will have access to coaching calls throughout the year. Bobbie will also offer podcast recordings on various topics throughout the course.

Start Date

Class will begin right after you enroll. The class is always open so some students will be ahead of you and some will be behind you.

Video

Working students can submit a 2-3 minutes of video every two weeks for instructional review. Voiceover video review is done by screen casting for a more personalized experience. Screen casting is audio-visual feedback (next best thing to 1:1 conversation).

Timeline

Video review for homework is due by the 21st of each month to leave adequate time for the instructor to review and provide feedback. Questions may be asked throughout the course and in between video review periods. Access to material lasts 1 yr.

What Level Are the Exercises?

This course will have beginner and puppy level exercises. This class will focus specifically on everything puppy, foundation behaviors, movement, surface training, cooperative care, and more!

Suggested Pre-requisites

A basic understanding of clicker training and target training is helpful but not required.

Possible Equipment

A variety of things will be used but you can likely substitute with things you already have around your house. Equipment suggestions will be made and you are invited to substitute for what you have available.

Training Methods

A variety of training methods will be used: shaping, capturing, targeting, and molding. These methods will be discussed in the video turtorials, in the comment section, in written material, and through video review. Bobbie will show a variety of training videos from scratch, in progress, and finished behaviors. An explanation of the training process may be written or in the videos.

Disclaimer: Some information in this class may overlap or appear in other classes due to the foundation needed for many behaviors, tricks and fitness exercises. In addition, there are overlapping skills needed for many different performance activities so you may see exercises that are the same but packaged up differently toward a slightly different goal.

Bobbie owns and operates Pawsitive Performance LLC which offers dog training, fitness training and trick training around the globe. Bobbie is the lead instructor and program director for the Certified Canine Strength and Conditioning Coach program that is offered through North Carolina State University and North Carolina State University Veterinary Medicine. She was also part of the TEAM that contributed knowledge and experience to design the CCFT II Live Lab and was a course instructor for the program. Bobbie completed the certification program for Canine Fitness through the Companion Animal Sciences Institute and she is a Certified Training Partner with the Karen Pryor Academy.

Bobbie has 4 awesome dogs that train a variety of skills for agility, fitness training, trick training, tugging and dock diving. Bobbie enjoys the training process and strives to comuinicate in the best way she can to help her dogs and clients dogs understand the task at hand. She starts every training sessions with this question "how can I set the dog up for success and give the dog the best information to successfully complete the behavior".
